Awesome.  That's good to know.  I will give it a try until my RAID controller arrives early next week.  Thanks.

Re: R410 - BROADCOM NIC can run VLAN tagged under Linux?

Hi,

Seems it did not sending the tagged frames.  Even I set to native or trunk mode. The packet also like this

16:28:21.816270 d4:ae:52:8d:33:40 > 00:24:dc:0b:a1:07, ethertype IPv4 (0x0800), length 98: 41.52.136.195 > 8.8.8.8: ICMP echo request, id 24333, seq 1, length 64

16:28:22.817517 d4:ae:52:8d:33:40 > 00:24:dc:0b:a1:07, ethertype IPv4 (0x0800), length 98: 41.52.136.195 > 8.8.8.8: ICMP echo request, id 24333, seq 2, length 64

16:28:23.817932 d4:ae:52:8d:33:40 > 00:24:dc:0b:a1:07, ethertype IPv4 (0x0800), length 98: 41.52.136.195 > 8.8.8.8: ICMP echo request, id 24333, seq 3, length 64

does it means sending untagged frames?

Also, when I set to the trunk mode.  The server could not access the switch vlan 300 interface.

and when I check  /proc/net/vlan/config.  Suppose it will show when vlan is active and its statistic.  But I could not find those files.  Does it means bnx2 did not support Broadcom NetXtreme II (BCM5716) to running tagged vlan?

Any suggestion?  Thanks!

i reboot again but this time from ubuntu cd and install the ubuntu in only one hard disk ( i wasn't know about RAID )
then at reboot system didn't see ubuntu and load windows and ask again for windows essential cd
i tried to reboot from dell cd again and install windows server 2008 again but dell cd failed to prepare it this time and ask for missing things

What controller do you have installed in your T110 II?   If its a S100 or S300,  it will run Windows only.   You may have corrupted your Windows installation and will need to start over. .

If you want to run linux, you will need to change RAID controllers.

well, lets start with which openmanage cd from dell you are using, for the R420 you should be using this disc

www.dell.com/.../poweredge-r720

you could also try using the lifecycle controller (F10 at bootup) and use the OS Deployment function. IF SLES 11 SP2 is not a listed option, you should then update the OS drver pack using the Lifecycle controller Firmware Update option to update the driver pack and anything else that it shows could be updated. This assumes that the system can reach ftp.dell.com. Please let us know how this goes.

Thanks indeed! Using the Lifecycle Controller "OS Deployment" function resulted in the needed drivers being written somewhere. I got a notice that the inserted media could not be verified, but I was given the option to continue. I rebooted as instructed to the installer media and notwit sees the RAID5 array. On to partitioning and instaallation.

Well, almost... In the OS Deployment function I configured the controller RAID5 with all 4 600GB PDs. The SLES 11 installer only sees 307MB of available disk space to partition. It was unable to provide a default scheme, and the partition tool only sees /dev/sda as having 307MB free, with an existing partition of /sda1.  Hmmf.

I see. I should look again when the controller is done intializing the volume.

Support sent me a new Internal Dual SD card reader and it boots correctly now (under UEFI). I have rebooted a few times (I know I'm a bit paranoid) and comes up each time.

Thank you for all your help in diagnosing the problem.

This morning the RAID was done synching. Rebooting into the SuSE installer, I still only had access to a 308MB disk.  I then tried booting to the R720 ISO you suggested and went through the initial partitioning process for SLES 11.  It still rejected my installer media, so I shut down and tried booting to the media through F11 again. No hard disks were found...

I took the Lifecycle Controller route again. Again, I see only a 308MB FAT partition. I cannot work this the rest of the disk space.

I'm also facing same kind of issue. We want install Linux at ourDell Powe Edge R 210 II. Please suggest us any solution for it ASAP.

What flavor of Linux are you trying to install?

What RAID controller does your R210 II have?

How many disks?  What RAID configuration (if any)?

I'm seeing the same issue on DELL T3600 workstation running Windows 8.  This happens when the computer wakes up from sleep mode.  I see the DPC_WATCDOG_VIOLATION Error.

I also see in the system log:

The device driver for the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) encountered a non-recoverable error in the TPM hardware, which prevents TPM services (such as data encryption) from being used. For further help, please contact the computer manufacturer.

Bitlocker is enabled on the system.

I'm running the Client System Update software provided and am current with everything.

How to install W2012Std on PowerEdge R210 II?

'evenin.

Because i found so many manuals stating the Windows Server 2012 is supported on this server i went in and bought the server. I used the DVD that came with the hardware to start the OS deployment process but then i ran into a problem. At the beginning of the OS deployment wizzard it asked me wich OS do i plan to install:

Win 2008 x86

Win2008 x64

Win2008 R2

Win 2011 SBS

but the Windows Server 2012 wasn't and option. How can i install Win2012Std on that hardware?

lets check this, go into the System BIOS at bootup, go to Boot Settings>BIOS Boot Settings>Hard-DIsk Drive Sequence, make sure that your RAID controller is listed first. If this is already correct, try going into the Raid controller bios screen and recreating the volume(s) there. NOTE: You will lose ALL data on the drives, so be sure you have it backed up!!

You might have something odd with your OS disc as well, because the openmanage disc reads the disc to be sure its the one you specified, and if it doesnt like it, something is usually wrong.

Ty for quick response Daniel.

You mentioned the System Build and Update Utility..

When using the System Build and Update Utility for OS deployment, i cannot choose Win2012Std as my choice, it is not listed as an option. Only Win2k8, Win2k8R2, Win2011SBS, Win2k8 R2 with SP1. I tried to trick the system by selecting Win2k8 R2 with SP1 and clicking next, then it asked me to insert the OS media wich i did, but few seconds after that the setup came up with some sort of missing dll file error.)

About 2012 DVD

When i boot from the dvd, the windows setup starts loading up and this is the first thing i see

(   that is a random picture from google, i have the same case here only the list is totally empty. blank. when i click Browse i can only point to C:\ and X:\  )  I believe that screen comes right before the language and keyboard localization settings but i never got to that.

Will it work if i download the 1693MB utility from the link you gave me?

I'm at home at the moment, i could provide some more details on errors and server hardware when i get to work in like 10 hours from now.

Yes, the SBUU I linked is newer than the OS driver pack installed on the lifecycle controller. It has server 2012 as an option. If you are getting a pop-up to install additional drivers then there is a piece of hardware that windows does not have a driver for. Have you added any hardware to the system, or do you have the S100 controller that Rey linked?

Thanks

Daniel, i think i have that S100 controller, yes. I will doublecheck it in the morning. I've checked out the link he posted, am i supposed to try the os deployment with S100 drivers for win2008?

(Thanks Rey)
